Figure 7

Oxidative stress markers. (A) Lipid hydroperoxide decreased in the placebo group from 0.8(0.7,0.9) to 0.5(0.4,0.5)μmol/l (p = 0.002) after AAA repair. In the ascorbic acid group the preoperative level 0.6(0.5,0.7)μmol/l did not change and postoperatively was 0.6(0.6,0.8)μmol/l (p = 0.4). Post-operatively lipid hydroperoxide levels were significantly higher in the ascorbic acid group compared with placebo (p < 0.001). (B) Plasma 8-isoprostane levels did not change after AAA repair in either group and there was no difference between groups at any time-point. In the placebo group the preoperative level 18.4(15.9,24.8)ng/ml did not change after AAA repair being 20.4(18.6,25.1)ng/ml (p = 0.3). In the ascorbic acid group the preoperative level 19.1(16.6,23.7)ng/ml did not change and postoperatively was 19.7(18.2,23.2)ng/ml (p = 0.6). There was no difference between groups at any time point.
