In vitro effects of histone H3 on endothelial cell and leukocytes. The figure depicts the merged phase-contrast and immunofluorescence images. Endothelial cell and leukocyte viability were observed at 6 h after the histone H3 administration. The rat aortic endothelial cells (upper panels) and leukocytes harvested from the abdominal cavity (lower panels) were incubated with calf thymus histone (25 [middle] and 50 [right] μg/mL). The nuclei of the dead cells were stained blue with DAPI (4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole) (objective lens ×20)
