Sulfide release. Comparison of Batch 8 used in the current study against previous and subsequent batches purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. Batch 8 was deemed suitable for use having aligned with our predefined criteria (3–4 parts per million; ppm, denoted by the dotted lines). Note that Batch 6 was purchased elsewhere and does not release its sulfur as sulfide; this underpins the importance of establishing this assay, if used for this purpose
