(A) Inflammatory response functions (high-level functional category) found to be enriched by genes differentially expressed between septic shock patients and healthy volunteers over the 48 h. The z-score value predicts the direction of change for the function. An absolute z-score of ≥2 is considered significant. A function is predicted to be increased if the z-score is ≥2 and decreased if the z-score is less than or equal to −2. Data for the comparison of septic shock patients versus healthy volunteers are represented at the onset of shock (H0) and 24 and 48 h after (H24, H48).
