Biochemical and histopathological examination of organ functioning. Levels of aspartate (ASAT) and alanine transaminase (ALAT), creatinine, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were measured in heparinized plasma collected at baseline and exsanguination. Platelet count was measured in whole blood collected in EDTA tubes. Urine was collected at baseline and exsanguination to measure protein levels. Values presented as median and interquartile range (IQR). *p < 0.05
